RefWorks is now EndNote Fusion - better reference management software

Friday, 23 October, 2026

In October 2026, RefWorks reference management software became EndNote Fusion.

Along with a new look, you'll also see new features and functionality.

There's no need to do anything. All existing accounts have been transferred, including any personal settings and customisations you previously applied.

All health and social care staff in Scotland can access EndNote Fusion with an NHS Scotland OpenAthens account. The service is free to set up and is provided by PSD Scotland Knowledge Services to support reference management, citation and bibliography creation.

Bookmarks and saved URLs are being redirected, giving you plenty of time to update any links if needed. When exporting references and an EndNote Fusion option isn't available yet then the RefWorks export option will continue to work.

RefWorks Citation Manager (RCM) has also been renamed to EndNote Fusion citation manager – if you already have this installed, you can continue to use with Microsoft Word and Google Docs.

See our help pages on The Knowledge Network for more details on how to access and set up EndNote Fusion and citation manager, as well as links to more guidance: EndNote Fusion and reference management | The Knowledge Network
