Welcome to the "Little Things Make a Big Difference : Valuing People" online resource for frontline NHS staff.
The NHSScotland Healthcare Quality Strategy states: " there will be mutually beneficial partnerships between patients, their families and those delivering healthcare services which respect individual needs and values and which demonstrate compassion, continuity, clear communication and shared decision-making".
This resource has been designed to act as a gateway for NHS Scotland staff to access resources which support the delivery of person-centred care. The site supports both rapid access to key documents and also deeper exploration of resources and current literature. It has been designed to enable quick access to resources, to support continuous professional development or to use as a resource with patients and carers.

Every picture tells a story

The most precious commodity we ever work with. Image shows a health worker emphasising the importance of the patient and not just the technology.

Everybody is somebody's loved one. Image shows a health worker responding to a patient and wondering if he would treat him differently if he was his Dad.

Patients are people, and not 'illnesses'. Image shows health workers focusing their attention on the condition instead of the person.

It can be tough to find the time to listen. Image shows two health workers busy with tasks while a third highlights the importance of listening.

Listening should also involve responding. Image shows a patient correcting a health worker who has brought her the wrong breakfast.

Involving People
NHS Boards are required to involve people in designing, developing and delivering the health care services they provide for them. These films are part of a larger train the trainer resource which includes filmed interviews with key stakeholders illustrating the importance and relevance of consultation and engagement with patients and stakeholders.
