Welcome to the Dementia MKN
Welcome to the NHS Scotland Dementia Managed Knowledge Network (MKN). Anyone with an interest in the health and social care of people with dementia may join this network, which offers information, resources and opportunities for discussion.
The network is being developed in partnership with NES Knowledge Services Group, The Dementia Services Development Centre and IRISS.

2-step registration
To be able to access and get the full benefit of The Knowledge Network services, including the Dementia MKN, users need a NHS Scotland Athens or NHS Knowledge Network Account. Please click on the link below to find out more about eligibility for a full account. If you do not fit into the groups that are eligible for a full account then restricted accounts are available. The restricted accounts do not get access to full text journals, books and databases.

Note: many Knowledge Network resources are freely accessible to all users, with no password required. This includes the Cochrane Library and MEDLINE, as well as many other high quality health information sources.
Once you have registered, you can join this community as follows:
- On the top of your screen, click on ‘Login/Register’.
- Enter your NHS Scotland Athens OR Knowledge Network account username and password.
- When logged in you will see your name appear in the top left of the screen.
- Next, click on "Join this community" – you will be prompted to read and accept the community's terms and conditions (tick box).
- Go back to www.knowledge.scot.nhs.uk/dementia and "refresh" the screen.
- Click on Join this community and your name will appear in the members list.

Dementia Now is a free, downloadable e-Journal containing research information and news.
Alzheimer Scotland News - click on the link to subscribe to email alerts.
Some journals provide a table of contents service to which you can subscribe. To find out more go to My Community Space News. To use some of the links below you may need to log in with your NHS Scotland username. These journals are available full text.

Essential Conversations
Essential Conversations: Talking about death and dementia is a programme initiated by Alzheimer Scotland, managed by the National Carer Organisations and funded by the Scottish Government.
It is aimed at staff to help them enhance their skills and confidence in supporting people with dementia and/or their families to discuss end of life care.
Care for Older People Portal
NHS Education for Scotland, in partnership with the Scottish Social Services Council, have developed a website to provide a ‘one stop shop’ for finding and sharing knowledge relating to the care of older people - including evidence, learning resources, legislation, standards and guidelines, publications on topics such as nutrition, stroke, dementia, medicines management and much more.
