NHSScotland Event 2010

The 2010 event programme, which was aligned to the ambitions and aims of the Quality Strategy, presented an opportunity to share, discuss, learn and hear about different developments in quality healthcare and how these link with the new NHSScotland Quality Strategy.

The programme sessions supported the different aspects of the Quality Strategy and the various local, national and international speakers shared the most recent thinking in healthcare quality.

The programme followed the six strands of quality:

• Person-centredness - Putting people at the centre of care and providing care that is respectful of, and responsive to, individual patient preferences, needs and values.
• Clinical Effectiveness - Providing services based on scientific knowledge to all who could benefit and refraining from providing services to those not likely to benefit.
• Safety - Avoiding injuries or harm to patients from the care that is intended to help them.
• Building Capacity for Quality Improvement - Ensuring that every member of staff has the knowledge and skills to improve patient care.
• Efficiency and Productivity - Utilising the available resources in the most efficient way. Avoiding waste, in particular waste of equipment, supplies, ideas and energy for increased productivity.
• Mutuality and Equality - Working in partnership with patients, carers, staff and the public to provide health services that are responsive to the individual needs and circumstances of people’s lives and that recognise the impact of prejudice, discrimination and exclusion on health inequalities.

The event featured a variety of interactive sessions including plenary sessions, parallel sessions, focus groups, early morning and lunchtime sessions.

Regardless of your area of speciality, the event offered a number of opportunities to further your knowledge or learn about a new topic.
